The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal William H. Craig (ASN: 1834369), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Battery F, 313th Field Artillery, 80th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Grand Carre Farm, France, 1 November 1918. While acting as battery scout Corporal Craig carried several important messages through intense artillery and machine-gun fire from the Infantry front lines to the battery position. On the afternoon of 1 November he was severely wounded while carrying a message to an advance observation post.
