The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Isamu Uyeda (ASN: ER-55000323), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 25 March 1951, in the vicinity of Chuan-ni, Korea. Company G was a combat patrol. As the unit advanced to a particularly rough part of the ridge, it was subjected to heavy enemy machine gun and small arms fire. Corporal Uyeda, with complete disregard for his own safety, dashed across the fire-swept area, throwing hand grenades into one machine gun position. With fixed bayonet, he then charged the position and routed the enemy into the open where other members of the unit could inflict casualties upon him. His actions enabled the company to advance towards its objective. The gallant conduct displayed by Corporal Uyeda reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
