Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 592 (October 10, 1951)

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Richard A. Uhrig (ASN: US-52057209), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 1 September 1951 in the vicinity of Mandae-ri, Korea. On that date, while assaulting an enemy-held hill, Company B was pinned down by intense small arms and automatic weapons fire from an enemy bunker. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Sergeant Uhrig completely exposed himself to enemy fire and advanced upon the enemy bunker destroying it with grenade fire. During this action, the squad leader was wounded and as a result the section was disorganized. Sergeant Uhrig immediately reorganized the unit and led it in an attack upon the remaining enemy force. The gallantry in action displayed by Sergeant Uhrig reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
