    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Walter T. Tylutki (ASN: 32014583), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company **, ** Battalion, ** Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. At about 1600 hours, on ** March 1943, near ******, Tunisia, Private First Class Tylutki, a member of a machine gun squad, took a position against an enemy machine gun nest during the withdrawal of Company **. Enemy fire knocked out the gun. Private Tylutki and another member of the squad were injured but continued firing with rifles holding off the enemy until the rest of the company withdrew. Private First Class Tylutki’s gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
