Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 100 (May 8, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) George J. Tworek (ASN: 0-2262461), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 3 March 1951 in the vicinity of Yongnang-ni, Korea. Lieutenant Tworek was leading his platoon in an assault against an enemy-held hill when the two lead squads were pinned down by intense enemy grenade and machine gun fire. When an automatic rifleman attempted to take a machine gun position under fire and his weapon failed to function, Lieutenant Tworek dashed courageously and fearlessly forward and destroyed the hostile emplacement with hand grenades. Throughout the remainder of the attack he remained fully upright, disregarding the enemy fire which struck all around him, encouraging and directing his men as they successfully advanced to the objective. The gallantry and aggressive spirit displayed by Lieutenant Tworek reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
