The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Captain (Quartermaster Corps) Henry L. Twigg (ASN: 0-1574356), United States Army, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with the 3511th Quartermaster Truck Company, in Germany. On the night of 11 April 1945, in Alsfeld, Germany, a cargo truck loaded with high explosive ammunition caught fire, igniting a nearby warehouse. Observing that the truck was beyond saving, Captain Twigg courageously entered the blazing warehouse and at great risk to his life directed crews in extinguishing the flames. Due to his heroic actions and cool leadership, the warehouse and several nearby buildings housing American troops were saved. Captain Twigg’s achievements reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
