Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 292 (July 13, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Second Lieutenant] Arsenio A. Turqueza (ASN: 0-2262264), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 26 November 1950, in the vicinity of Somin-dong, Korea. When his battalion was suddenly overrun by a numerically superior enemy, Lieutenant Turqueza, with complete indifference for his own safety, carried a seriously wounded comrade on his back, through the hills, bringing him to safety. He then returned and, heedless of the enemy forces in the area, reorganized all friendly troops he could find and led them to safety through the enemy forces. His determined and courageous actions thus saved the life of a seriously wounded comrade and prevented the capture or death of several soldiers. The gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Turqueza reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
