The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Robert H. Turner (ASN: 0-558129), United States Army, for heroic achievement during ground operations against a hostile force as a member of Company E, 2d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 7 April 1951, near Tajon-ni, Korea, while Company E was attacking a firmly entrenched enemy hill position, it was discovered that the ammunition supply had been virtually exhausted. Despite the fact that the valley to his rear was under extremely heavy enemy artillery and mortar fire, Lieutenant Turner, with no regard for his personal safety, led a re-supply party twenty five hundred yards through the valley to obtain more ammunition for his unit. The timely re-supply enabled his company to continue the impetus of its attack. Lieutenant Turner’s heroism, courage, and devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.

Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 363 (1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry), [then First Lieutenant] Robert H. Turner (ASN: 0-558129), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, 2d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 25 April 1951, near Taejon-ni, Korea, while Captain Turner was its commanding officer, Company H became engaged in a fierce firefight after the enemy had attacked the unit’s defenses. To prevent the area from being overrun, Captain Turner directed artillery and mortar counter fire on the enemy even though the bursting rounds fell within 15 or 20 yards of his own position. In full view of the enemy, he left the command post and firing his carbine and throwing grenades, he aided in repulsing the enemy assaults. When an order to fall back was subsequently received, he remained until all the troops had withdrawn; then he ordered tank fire to be placed on the recently abandoned position. As he left the area, Captain Turner encountered a wounded man who was unable to walk and assisting him, helped the stricken soldier to safety. The skillful leadership and gallantry displayed by Captain Turner reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
