Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 886 (December 29, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Wiley R. Tucker, Jr. (ASN: RA-15281656), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 12 October 1951 in the vicinity of Soghyon-ni, Korea. On that date Company C launched an attack on strategic and well-fortified enemy positions. Sergeant Tucker, completely exposed to the enemy fire, was firing rifle grenades into a hostile bunker when his rifle was shot from his hands. Unhesitatingly he continued to assault the enemy positions with hand grenades. Then securing a weapon he resumed the advance, inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy and inspiring his comrades with his courageous actions. His heroic and selfless deeds aided immeasurably in routing the hostile force and in the successful accomplishment of his unit’s mission. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Tucker on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
