The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Robert D. Tromans (ASN: RA-27032825), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 26 November 1950 in the vicinity of Unbong-dong, Korea. On that date, a squad of Company A was acting as point squad during heavy fighting with the enemy and all members of the squad were wounded. Those who could walk left the position and returned to the company command post. Two of the wounded men were unable to walk and were left behind. On learning this, Sergeant Tromans fought his way to the old position under intense small arms and automatic weapons fire and brought one of the men out. Then, still under heavy enemy fire, he returned once more to the squad area and brought out the second wounded soldier. The gallantry and loyal devotion to his comrades demonstrated by Sergeant Tromans reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
