Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 550 (December 5, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Harry E. Trigg (ASN: 0-60470), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 20 May 1951, near Koyang-San, Korea, the men of Company K were digging positions on a recently captured hill when a numerically superior enemy force counterattacked. The foe inflicted numerous casualties among the defenders and caused them to temporarily become ineffective as a fighting force; however, Captain Trigg, with utter disregard for his own safety, moved among the various groups under withering enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire and reorganized his company. After the company defense positions had been firmly established, he led a platoon in an attack on an approaching group of hostile soldiers, personally killing three and wounding several others. Later, under a heavy hostile mortar barrage, he assisted in evacuating the wounded and administering first aid. The gallantry, leadership, and unhesitating devotion to duty displayed by Captain Trigg reflect the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
