John Neiger graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1935. He was captured after the fall of the Philippine Islands in 1942, and died while being transported on a Japanese “Hell Ship” that was bombed by American Aircraft in December 1944.

The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major Neiger, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
