The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Tommie G. Tramel (ASN: RA-18263283), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 23 September 1950, in the vicinity of Chun-ghoe, Korea. Corporal Tramel was leading his squad in front of a tank column to clear the road of mines when the enemy suddenly opened with heavy small arms and machine gun fire. Four members of the squad were wounded and the others were forced to take cover. Undaunted, Corporal Tramel fully exposed himself and proceeded well beyond the foremost tank elements, searching for and removing mines until he fell seriously wounded. His courageous action enabled the tanks to resume the advance and overrun the enemy positions. The gallantry and devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Tramel reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
