The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Jack C. Theisen (ASN: RA-27029318), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 5 October 1950 in the vicinity of Changye, Korea. On that date Corporal Theisen volunteered to lead a combat patrol. After contacting approximately 30 enemy soldiers, he maneuvered his patrol into a position where each of his men could take cover and at the same time have a good field of fire against the enemy positions. He then, without regard for his personal safety, led a part of the patrol around the flank of the enemy force. His fearless actions under fire and his able leadership inspired his comrades to follow him and close with the enemy. As a result of his daring and skillful leadership the patrol succeeded in killing 9 and capturing 11 enemy soldiers without any casualties to his men. The gallantry displayed on this occasion by Corporal Theisen reflects great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
