(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: 2d Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Milton J. Johnson (ASN: 0-888303), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously) for gallantry in action in New Guinea on 13 July 1944. Lieutenant Johnson was Commander of a Tank Destroyer Reconnaissance Platoon in an attack against an enemy-held position. With utter disregard of his own personal safety, he continually exposed himself to enemy sniper fire on an open beach in order to direct the fire of his Tank Destroyer platoon, until he was killed in action by enemy mortar and artillery fire. Lieutenant Johnson’s gallantry was an inspiration to all around him, and was in the highest military traditions.
