Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 650 (October 30, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Arthur E. Tejada (ASN: US-56062668), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 September 1951 in the vicinity of Tondul, Korea. On this date during an assault upon an enemy-held hill, Company A met heavy resistance from hostile forces, and machine gun fire from an enemy bunker halted the advance of friendly troops. Although painfully wounded by grenade fire, Corporal Tejada, a rifleman, courageously worked his way to the bunker. Upon nearing the objective, he completely exposed himself to intense enemy fire and with a flame thrower assaulted the position, destroying the emplacement and its crew. As a result, Corporal Tejada’s unit was able to continue its advance to secure the objective. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Tejada on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
