Headquarters, Sub-Task Force Goal Post, General Orders No. 11 (December 12, 1942)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Infantry) Joseph A. Teece (ASN: 0-4558), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Executive Officer, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. On 10 November 1942, Colonel Teece, discovering that enemy forces were infiltrating between the Kasba and the Sebou River, quickly organized a provisional group of men of the 21st and 540th Engineers and, in face of heavy rifle and machine gun fire, personally led and commanded this group throughout the day until the fort at the Kasba fell and the ultimate defeat of the enemy was accomplished. Colonel Teece’s gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
