Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 184 (June 17, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Roy L. Taylor (ASN: RA-16312730), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Kumnul-gol, Korea. On that date, Sergeant Taylor, though wounded when his company was attacked by a numerically superior enemy force, obtained an automatic rifle and opened fire on the enemy, inflicting many casualties and forcing the opposition to scatter in disorder. This swift and courageous action of Sergeant Taylor under intense enemy fire enabled his squad and many other comrades to withdraw to more favorable positions with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry and heroic devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Taylor reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
