The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Sergeant First Class Russell A. Anderson, United States Army, for meritorious service in connection with military operations against a hostile force during the period December 1969 to November 1970 while serving as Confinement Supervisor, Phu Quoc Disciplinary Camp, Phu Quoc Island, Republic of Vietnam. During this period, Sergeant Anderson obtained outstanding results despite the adverse conditions incident to a combat environment. With a sense of urgency to complete his mission, he set an example that inspired his associates to strive for maximum performance. His tremendous initiative and perpetual drive earned him the respect and admiration of everyone with whom he worked. By his personal endeavor and devotion to duty he assisted materially in the success and effectiveness of Free World military operations in the Republic of Vietnam. Sergeant First Class Anderson’s performance of duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
