Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 170 (May 28, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Earnest Arron Taylor (ASN: ER-57204868), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 10th Engineer Combat Battalion, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 21 November 1950, near Majon-ni, Korea, Private Taylor’s unit was assigned the mission of providing engineer support for a supply convoy. While passing through a narrow valley, the convoy was halted by an enemy road block and the enemy, well dug-in on both sides of the road, began firing into the convoy, killing a machine gun crew instantly. Private Taylor, with complete disregard for his personal safety, manned the machine gun and delivered a withering fire on the enemy positions enabling many of his comrades to reach safety. The convoy was completely overrun and when last seen, he was still firing the machine gun providing cover for the withdrawal of the other troops. The gallant and courageous actions of Private Taylor reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
