The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Patrick S. Tamayori (ASN: US-30127319), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 30 May 1951, in the vicinity of Inje, Korea. On that date Company L was engaged in removing an enemy roadblock when suddenly it found itself in a trap. The company immediately proceeded to disengage from the enemy and withdraw from its precarious position. In the course of the withdrawal, Corporal Tamayori noticed that a 57-mm. recoilless rifle had been abandoned after all of its crew had been killed or wounded. Asking his comrades for covering fire, Corporal Tamayori dashed about 500 yards through a fusillade of enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire to the location of the weapon. Picking up the gun, he retraced his steps through the intense enemy fire to the company position. By his courageous act, Corporal Tamayori denied this weapon to the enemy and recovered a valuable piece of equipment. The gallantry demonstrated by Corporal Tamayori reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
