The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Michael T. Suzuki (ASN: US-50001948), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 7 October 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On that date, while caught under seemingly impassable enemy mortar fire, and himself wounded by mortar fragments, Corporal Suzuki exposed himself many times carrying helpless comrades to cover and applying first aid. Seeing that no medical attention was available, he descended the hill to obtain the necessary stretchers, and then made several trips to the top of the hill carrying the wounded back to safety. Not until he saw that all of the injured were evacuated did he himself report to the aid station for treatment. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Suzuki reflects great credit upon himself and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
