The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class George P. Sutton (ASN: RA-13270976), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery B, 503d Field Artillery Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 30 November and 1 December 1950 in the vicinity of Kunu-ri, Korea. On the night of 30 November 1950 Private Sutton was driving a four-ton vehicle in a convoy which was attempting to break through an enemy road block. Although the convoy was constantly subjected to heavy enemy small arms, machine gun and mortar fire, he stopped his vehicle on numerous occasions to pick up wounded personnel. When his vehicle was disabled by enemy fire, he examined several abandoned vehicles until he found a truck that was operatives. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he transferred the wounded to the truck and continued to drive through the enemy fire. As he stopped to pick up a wounded comrade, he was attacked by two enemy soldiers whom he shot and killed. After loading the wounded men on the truck, he continued to drive through the pass until his vehicle was also disabled by enemy fire. He then found a three-quarter ton vehicle that had been abandoned, loaded the wounded on this vehicle and drove completely out of the roadblock area until he reached an aid station. The gallantry and devotion to his fallen comrades displayed by Private Sutton reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
