The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Corporal] Charles F. Summers (ASN: RA-45035673), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. Near Hadong, Korea, 27 July 1950, Sergeant Summers’ platoon was evacuating it’s position after covering the displacement of the company. Despite exposure to intense hostile fire, he aided a wounded comrade across some hundred yards of open terrain. Repeatedly traversing the fire-swept field, he successfully evacuated six more wounded men to a place of safety. Sergeant Summers valorous actions reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
