The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Stephen C. Sullivan (ASN: RA-6149147), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. In the vicinity of Chung Bolgok, Korea, on 24 October 1950, Sergeant Sullivan’s convoy was attacked by a determined hostile force. Although exposed to an intense concentration of small arms and automatic weapons fire and a barrage of hand grenades, he remained in the lead jeep and delivered carbine fire with such accuracy that the enemy were held at bay; he withdrew only upon direct order from his platoon leader. Sergeant Sullivan’s courage, determination and selfless devotion to duty were an inspiration to his comrades and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
