The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Gerald V. Sullivan (ASN: 0-1327390), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 11 December 1950, near Majondong, Korea, enemy snipers ambushed and pinned down a small American force. Lieutenant Sullivan, disregarding his own personal safety, jumped to his feet and moved forward firing his weapon at the enemy positions. His action forced the foe to divert its fire from the pinned down men long enough for them to withdraw in safety. He withdrew only when the others had reached safety. The courage and regard for his fellow soldiers displayed by Lieutenant Sullivan reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
