Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 360 (August 15, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Sergeant First Class] William F. Strobridge (ASN: 0-2263190), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, 2d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 23 April 1951, while setting up a blocking position near Ama-hyon, Korea, the third squad of the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Platoon came under intense enemy fire. Lieutenant Strobridge, leader of the second squad, quickly led his unit to the scene of the engagement and assumed command of the combined squads. Continually exposing himself to the hostile fire, he deployed the men to covered positions and directed their fire upon the enemy. Observing an enemy force threatening to cut off a British platoon which was unaware of this danger, Lieutenant Strobridge manned a machine gun from an exposed position and poured a hail of fire upon the hostile force, pinning it down and enabling the British to withdraw into his position. The gallantry, courage, and outstanding leadership displayed by Lieutenant Strobridge reflect high credit upon himself and are in keeping with the high traditions of the military service.
