Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 363 (October 8, 1952)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Audley J. Streib, Jr. (ASN: RA-14358022), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company M, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 30 July 1951 in the vicinity of Tauesan, Korea. On that date, Private Streib was a member of an Infantry Heavy Weapons Company which was supporting a task force in a three-pronged attack to take Hill 1179. As the attack moved forward it was halted by heavy concentrations of enemy mortar, automatic weapons and small arms fire. Private Streib, realizing the precariousness of the situation, banded together a group of men and led them with their heavy weapons to a more exposed position to better support the Infantry. Seeing a better vantage point farther up the hill, Private Streib, with complete disregard for personal safety and although faced withy murderous enemy fire, led his men to this vantage point and placed such withering fire upon the enemy that the friendly elements were able to advance and secure the objective. His valiant actions were greatly responsible for the success of the friendly elements’ winning a major battle in which one North Korean Regiment was annihilated and another crushed into ineffectiveness. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Streib reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
