The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Darold L. Strandberg (ASN: ER-17214955), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 11 February 1951 in the vicinity of Sangsok, Korea. Company B was assaulting enemy positions on Hill 412. From well concealed emplacements the enemy stubbornly resisted the advance and pinned the company down with a heavy concentration of machine gun and sniper fire. Private Strandberg fearlessly moved forward to a vulnerable position to locate the hostile positions. From his vantage point he engaged the enemy with rifle fire and killed two snipers. He then directed the fire of his comrades until the enemy positions were neutralized, enabling the company to continue to its objective. The gallantry displayed by Private Strandberg reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
