The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Irum Qinitle Collins (ASN: 2039257), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 114th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Verdun, France, October 12 – 17, 1918. Private Collins displayed exceptional bravery carrying messages as a runner through barrage fire and gassed areas with heroic devotion to duty until he was finally overcome by gas.
