The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class David W. Seward (ASN: RA-23179620), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery C, 52d Field Artillery Battalion, 24th Infantry Division, in action near Waegwam, Korea, on 19 September 1950. During the assault crossing of the Naktong River he made repeated trips across the river in attempts to establish wire communications between the forward observer party and the fire battery. Although under intense mortar and small arms fire he unhesitatingly moved forward time and again until communications were established. Private Seward’s gallant actions with complete disregard for his own safety aided materially in the establishment of the beachhead and reflect the greatest credit on himself and the United States Artillery.
