The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Marion W. Stevenson (ASN: 0-1290837), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, 2d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 26 November 1950, near Kunu-ri, Korea, elements of Captain Stevenson’s battalion were threatened with encirclement by a numerically superior hostile force. Despite constant exposure to intense small arms and mortar fire, he personally engaged the enemy with rifle fire and utilized every opportunity to direct the advantageous emplacement and accurate counterfire of machine guns and 57-mm. rifles. When the intense hostile pressure caused some elements to displace, he moved throughout the position, reorganized several scattered groups and redeployed them so effectively that the onrushing enemy were checked and the integrity of the line maintained. Captain Stevenson’s aggressive leadership, sound tactical judgment, and selfless devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
