The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Clarence S. Stenmoe (ASN: 0-1318248), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 6 September 1950 at Am-Sin, Korea. On that date, he was leading his platoon with the mission of destroying an encircled enemy pocket located on high ground. The momentum of the attack was rapidly being dissipated due to intense enemy machine gun fire and deadly bursts from hand grenades. Exposing himself to the withering hostile fire, he reorganized his platoon and by his fearless leadership inspired the members of his unit to continue the attack. Though severely wounded, he refused evacuation, and with complete disregard for his personal safety and comfort, led his platoon in a final and successful assault of the enemy positions. By his valorous conduct and aggressive tactics he eliminated an enemy strong point which threatened the security of our forces. His gallantry and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
