The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Private George Srbich (ASN: US-55020998), United States Army, for heroic achievement on 30 May 1951 in the vicinity of Kosa-ri, Korea. On that date Company L, while on patrol, ran into an ambush. After the initial shock of the enemy attack, the company gathered its wounded and placed them in a truck under cover of machine gun fire. The driver having been wounded, the only one available to guide the truck out of the trap was the machine gunner. As soon as the machine gunner left his weapon, Private Srbich, with complete disregard for his own safety and oblivious to the intense enemy fire directed at the weapon, took over the gun and, firing continuously, covered the evacuation of the wounded. Private Srbich remained completely exposed, firing the weapon until the truck had passed out of range of the intense enemy fire. The heroism demonstrated by Private Srbich reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
