The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Alvin Sprock (ASN: US-46084148), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 2d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 3 December 1950, in the vicinity of Huksu-ri, Korea, when their platoon had been cut off and surrounded by the enemy, Private Sprock and another soldier volunteered to go on a reconnaissance mission to see if they could find a way through the enemy lines. Private Sprock crawled for fifty yards through frozen snow before being seen by the enemy. Private Sprock sprang to his feet and blasted away at the enemy keeping its attention away from the other man. Private Sprock was blanketed by a withering hail of small arms and automatic weapons fire and severely wounded, but the other man was able to get through the enemy lines and cover the withdrawal of the rest of the platoon. Private Sprock’s wounds prevented his being removed with the platoon. Private Sprock’s courage and devotion to his fellow men are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
