Headquarters, 24th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 74 (August 7, 1950)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Cayetano Sosa (ASN: RA-18320021), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery B, 52nd Field Artillery Battalion, 24th Infantry Division, on 16 July 1950 near Yongdong, Korea. During an enemy attack on the battery’s position, Private First Class Sosa volunteered to operate a .50 caliber machinegun which was located some distance from the battery as an outpost. This position was under heavy small arms and mortar fire. He continued to operate the machinegun until he was mortally wounded by small arms fire. This courageous act inspired the other men of the battery to continue to defend their positions. The act of gallantry displayed by Private First Class Sosa reflects the highest credit on himself and the military service.
