The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private William C. Coday (ASN: 3510370), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 56th Infantry Regiment, 7th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Rembercourt, France, 9 October – 11 November 1918. As company and platoon runner, Private Coday worked tirelessly, being on duty almost constantly both day and night, carrying numerous messages under enemy machine-gun and artillery fire.
