The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Floyd Cline (ASN: 541122), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at La Tuilerie Farm, near La Charmel, France, during the Aisne-Marne offensive, 23 July 1918. When no stretcher bearers were available Private Cline voluntarily crossed an open space of 200 yards swept by heavy enemy machine-gun fire directly in front of his company’s lines and brought back to safety a severely wounded comrade who was calling for help.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Floyd Cline (ASN: 541122), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company C, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 23 July 1918, at La Tieulerie, near La Charmel, France, Private Cline displayed extraordinary bravery when, none of the stretcher bearers being available, assisted by Corporal Kalaburka, he voluntarily crossed an open space of two hundred yards directly in front of his company lines which was covered by heavy machine gun fire, and brought back to his company a wounded comrade whose arm had been blown off and was calling for help.
