The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Henry A. Symborski (ASN: RA-12318425), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 September 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date, during an attack on a well-fortified enemy hill, Sergeant Symborski, a squad leader, was given the mission of leading his unit against a group of enemy bunkers. Realizing small arms fire alone was insufficient to destroy the enemy positions, Sergeant Symborski armed himself solely with hand grenades. After directing his men in positions of safety, he courageously assaulted the enemy bunkers throwing grenades upon the surprised and startled enemy force, inflicting heavy casualties upon them. During this encounter Sergeant Symborski was painfully wounded, but through his actions friendly units were able to secure the objective. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Symborski on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
