The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Grant Slinn (ASN: RA-11170435), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 27 November 1950, in the vicinity of Kunu-ri, Korea. On that day while the rest of Company C was withdrawing, Sergeant Slinn remained behind to fight a rear guard action with thirteen men under his command. During this period of fighting, Sergeant Slinn led his men in the delaying action for eight hours, even though they were outnumbered fifteen-to-one. Courageously and fearlessly holding back the overwhelming enemy forces, he successfully covered his company as it withdrew to safety. Sergeant Slinn’ s gallantry reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
