The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Thomas A. Sisk (ASN: US-56085122), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Panmegri-ri, Korea. On that date, Private Sisk, along with a small number of other men, was fighting a delaying action on a high hill, while the remainder of the company moved to new positions. Under intense enemy fire, Private Sisk observed and relayed to his squad leader the most important enemy targets, thus inflicting many casualties on the enemy. When this rear guard withdrew to join the company in the new positions, Private Sisk voluntarily and with complete disregard for his own personal safety, remained behind to destroy all ammunition and equipment, which the friendly troops had been unable to remove. The gallantry in action and loyal devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Sisk on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
