The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Orley J. Sims (ASN: 0-1318717), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 29 November 1950, near Majon-ni, Korea, Lieutenant Sims was moving his company into position to support another company which was under intense enemy fire. While moving forward, several of his men were wounded, whereupon the members of his company sought cover in the ditches along side the road. Lieutenant Sims, with utter disregard for his personal safety, calmly walked up and down the road placing his men into better positions from which to return effective fire on the enemy. He accomplished this while exposed at all times to enemy observation and fire. The inspirational leadership and gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Sims on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
