The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Captain Lorin Burton Krueger, II (AFSN: FR-55524), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-100 Pilot of the 510th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Bien Hoa Air Base, in action near Phan Thiet, Republic of Vietnam, on 21 February 1966. On that date, Captain Krueger was scrambled to give air support to a friendly forces convoy ambushed by a large Viet Cong force. Captain Krueger’s action in the face of intense hostile ground fire was instrumental in saving the convoy by inflicting heavy losses to the hostile forces. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Krueger reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.

Headquarters, 7th Air Force, Special Orders G-778 (September 27, 1966)The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Lorin Burton Krueger, II (AFSN: FR-55524), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with the 510th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Bien Hoa Air Base, in action near An Loc, Republic of Vietnam, on 30 June 1966. On this date, Captain Krueger led a flight of two F-100s in support of an ambushed convoy from the 1st Infantry Division, which was in great danger of being overrun. Flying through a barrage of hostile ground fire, Captain Krueger’s aircraft was hit on the first pass over the target resulting in the disintegration of a napalm bomb carried under his wing and fuel streaming from the aircraft. Not knowing what further damage may have occurred, Captain Krueger continued the attack with complete disregard for his personal safety. He made ten additional passes over the target dropping his ordnance from a low and vulnerable altitude to insure maximum accuracy and effectiveness. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Krueger has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Lorin Burton Krueger, II (AFSN: FR-55524), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4E Aircraft Commander of the 510th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Bien Hoa Air Base, in action over hostile territory on 20 December 1972. On that date, Major Krueger provided escort for a flight of F-4’s laying a chaff corridor to and from Hanoi. Despite intense anti-aircraft artillery fire and repeated surface-to-air missile launches, Major Krueger was able to provide continuous aerial protection to the chaff flight. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Major Krueger reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
