On this date, Captain Krueger led a flight of two F-100s in support of an ambushed convoy from the 1st Infantry Division, which was in great danger of being overrun. Flying through a barrage of hostile ground fire, Captain Krueger’s aircraft was hit on the first pass over the target resulting in the disintegration of a napalm bomb carried under his wing and fuel streaming from the aircraft. Not knowing what further damage may have occurred, Captain Krueger continued the attack with complete disregard for his personal safety. He made ten additional passes over the target dropping his ordnance from a low and vulnerable altitude to insure maximum accuracy and effectiveness.
