The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant [then Staff Sergeant] Stelvio Silvani (ASN: 32095448), United States Army, for gallantry in action in Italy from 17 September 1943 to 1 November 1944. Master Sergeant Silvani, repeatedly volunteered for painstaking and responsible duties which consisted of conducting agents across the most difficult terrain and under the worse weather conditions into German lines. His attitude in the course of nerve-wracking night patrols under enemy fire and his skill as a scout and good judgment in the most difficult situations deserve the highest praise. His dependability, willingness and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
