    Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 75 (March 9, 1953), Amended by G.O. NO. 105 (April 1, 1953)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Daniel T. Sifuentes (ASN: RA-19372881), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, on 8 September 1952 in the vicinity of Chorwon, North Korea. On that date, Private Sifuentes was leading a squad from the Battalion Pioneer and Ammunition Platoon which was engaged in laying protective wire along the forward slopes of Hill 266, better known as “OLD BALDY”. Before completion of their mission, a devastating barrage of enemy mortar and artillery fire suddenly began to fall upon their positions, forcing the squad to seek cover. After reaching a protected position, Private Sifuentes, concerned only for the welfare of his comrades and with complete disregard for personal safety, left his place of cover and once again faced the murderous rain of hostile fire to assure himself that each member of his squad had found cover. While performing his selfless act, Private Sifuentes was mortally wounded by an enemy shell. The outstanding gallantry in action and the unhesitating willingness to risk his own life to insure safety for his comrades exhibited by Private Sifuentes reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
