The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Donald H. Siddell (ASN: 0-1316680), United States Army, for gallantry in action as Commanding Officer, Company K, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Taedae-ri, Korea. On 21 February 1951, while Captain Siddell’s company was attacking in an attempt to secure Hill 201, it was pinned down by intense automatic weapons and mortar fire laid down by the well-entrenched and fanatically determined enemy force holding the objective. Realizing that his men were in imminent danger of annihilation unless aggressive action was taken, Captain Siddell quickly moved forward to point out targets to his men. Upon locating a machine-gun emplacement that was directing devastating fire on his men, he immediately attacked the position single-handedly. Although mortally wounded in this assault, Captain Siddell killed the two occupants of the position and successfully neutralized the weapon. Inspired by his heroic actions, his men launched a ferocious attack against the numerically superior enemy, driving the hostile troops from the area and securing the objective. The aggressive leadership0 and personal courage displayed by Captain Siddell reflected the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
