The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Thomas F. Sheldon (ASN: RA-32590648), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division in Korea. On 4 August 1950, an attack by the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment near Chuson-ni, Korea, was temporarily halted by intense artillery, mortar and small arms fire. Sergeant Sheldon drove a vehicle through the heavy concentrations of enemy fire on four occasions to evacuate wounded and deliver ammunition to the front of the column. His heroic actions, which saved the lives of many wounded and enabled the battalion to repel the attack, were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
