The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Warren Arlington Chittum (ASN: 2783841), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 364th Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Eclisfontaine, France, September 29 – 1 October 1918. Although his right thumb had been shot off, Private Chittum remained at his post as carrier of an automatic rifle squad throughout the engagement.
