Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 295 (July 29, 1953)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Warren E. Sessler (ASN: RA-27036146), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Korea. During the early morning hours of 11 June 1953, in the vicinity of Songnge-dong, Korea, Company C had the mission of reinforcing a friendly held outpost which was assaulted by hostile forces. When the reinforcement element was committed, Private Sessler, a rifleman, dashed up the fire-swept slope to the summit of the hill. Moving toward the forward enemy infested emplacements, he fired his weapon with effective accuracy. When his squad was halted by intense hostile machine gun fire, Private Sessler, with complete disregard for his personal safety, crawled to within feet of the enemy’s position, threw grenades into their midst and dispatched them. Returning to his squad, he proceeded to drive the remaining foe from the friendly trenches and bunkers. He remained on the hill throughout the attack until assured that the foe had been driven off. Private Sessler’s outstanding gallantry and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
